"one moment passes" is a poem by Robert Lax, a meditative game with the subject "time", with "is", "was" and "will be" - symbolized by a car ride in the film (the past in the rear mirror and the future in front). Three different time layers - the past in the rear mirror is slowed down, the car ride runs forward and reverse - are put on top of each other to create the very moment of presence.

"just midnight" is a poem by Robert Lax, that describes a

temporal and spacial situation by very minimal means.

For Robert Lax the composition of the letters and words on

the paper was very important. And so he created one of his

vertical typefaces, that was transfered for the film. The letters

become spaces and actors, crossed and circled by the

camera. Step by step a three-dimensional formation of words

is generated and disappears again in a sheet of paper.

For the film "mixed reflection" I use the mixture of different
techniques (video and animation), as well as the mixture of the
different common media, confronting me with my face - the
mirror, the screen and the camera.
The video is set in the intimacy of a bathroom. It's not clear, if I
pose unobserved in front of the bathroom mirror or in front of a
camera.

"Towards evening, in the dark of my room on the sofa. Why does one take a rather long time to recognize a color, but then, after the understanding has reached the decisive turning point, quickly become all the more convinced of the color. If the light from the anteroom and the kitchen shines on the glass door simultaneously from the outside, then greenish—or rather, not to detract from the definiteness of the impression—green light pours down almost the length of the panes. If the light in the anteroom is turned off and only the kitchen light remains, then the pane nearer the kitchen becomes deep blue, the other whitish blue, so whitish that all the drawings on the frosted glass (stylized poppies, tendrils, various rectangles, and leaves) dissolve.The lights and shadows thrown on the walls and the ceiling by the electric lights in the street and the bridge down below are distorted, partly spoiled, overlapping, and hard to follow. When they installed the electric arc-lamps down below and when they furnished this room, there was simply no housewifely consideration given to how my room would look from the sofa at this hour without any lights of its own.The glare thrown on the ceiling by the tram passing down below moves whitely, wraithlike and with mechanical pauses along the one wall and ceiling, broken in the corner. The globe stands on the linen chest in the first, fresh, full reflection of the street lights, a greenishly clean light on top, has a highlight on its roundness and gives the impression that the glare is really too strong for it, although the light passes over its smoothness and goes off leaving it rather brownish like a leather apple. The light from the anteroom throws a large patch of glare on the wall over the bed. This patch is bounded by a curved line beginning at the head of the bed, gives the illusion that the bed is pressed down, widens the dark bedposts, raises the ceiling over the bed."

When I "discovered" this passage in Franz Kafkas diary, I was fascinated by the exactly described situation in his room, caused by different light sources and I decided to transform this text into a virtual 3d animation.

Old family photos and the ticking of a clock evoke a process of remembrance that deals with the spatial fading of remembered reality and visualised possibility.
The child enters the grandparent's house, a very strict, religious and proper world, embedded into a chronologically controlled daily routine. A place that doesn't concede any space to the requirements of a child. The camera follows consequently the gaze of the child, that, focussed on certain things, develops its own strategies of escape.
Hyperspaces of childish imagination arises in the mind's eye, temporary refuges, that don't offer a real way out and ends again and again in the claustrophobic space of memory.

The constant dripping of water symbolizes the careless wasting of important resources in our everyday life. In this short film the consequences of this regardless attitude don't appear in faraway countries or times, but causes immediately a domestic disaster with no escape.

As the last remaining undiscovered regions are located in the mind, a creature-shaped spaceship travels into virtual space. The vehicle is the hero of the story, characterized by a nimbus of superiority. It is able to swim, fly, dive, undock the capsule, change it's size etc. Above all, the spaceship is equipped with all imaginable appliances for observation as various special cameras, microphones, sensors, x-ray units etc. By these means it is not only able to perceive but also to analyze and archive its perception. Imagined and subjective, and hence virtual, spaces are thereby turned into objective and real spaces since they can be discribed and presented in a language which is similar to scientific documentation.
It's an ironic play on contemporary creation and representation of pseudo-realities in digital imagery. Common methods of demonstrating and thereby "verifying" these "realities" are exaggerated into the realm of the fantastic.
The adventures take place in acting and altering spaces, all principles of statics and logics are suspended. Reacting to each particular situation, the spaceship collects data, analyzes, annotates and reflectes them in the further course of the flight. The language used is as well scientific as poetic, like the former reports of expeditions. The end is very surprising and gives two short hints that the film is a reminiscence to Jules Verne and Adalbert Stifter.

As I am fascinated by the whole topic of expeditions, I was convinced to go for a journey by myself. Over the years it turned out to be more difficult than I expected as a child and as the last undicovered regions are located in the mind, I decided to travel into virtual space of mind or thoughts, by using the today's digital technique of visualization.
